10 Months

It seems like yesterday that I was telling the birth story and now here we are 10 months later...only 2 months away from being 1 year olds!

What's been going on these days? A LOT! We were recently visited by Cody's parents, Ione & Terry, sister, Kylene and our nieces - Lauren and Ally. We were super excited that everyone got to come and visit and we got to enjoy our nieces for a few days! They, too, are growing up soo quickly! I remember vividly waiting at the hospital for Kylene to deliver Lauren...and now Lauren is in 1st grade.

Both of our babies are developing new skills everyday and are learning all about the world around them.

Lukas

Lukas is still our flirt. He loves attention and will be very silly/loud to get that attention. Everytime we go somewhere Lukas is making eyes with someone. I would say that he would be a heartbreaker, but he is sooo sweet. He is also a lover. He loves to gives kisses, hugs and just cuddle at times. Ladies be warned...you break my son's heart...I'm gonna break your... I digress.

Lukas has 6 teeth. He has three on the bottom and three on the top! His wide mouth grin looks soo stinkin' cute with those two front teeth showing. However, with this new development we have had to watch them both for biting. He has also started showing us a few temper tantrums (no clue where he gets that from) Sometimes he gets cranky and just lays his face on the floor and fusses. It is pretty hysterical and we have to try hard not to laugh at his "anger".

Lukas stands on his own, waves, says "Mama" & "Dada", eats pretty much anything he can get his hands (esp. if it's on Maddox's tray) and plays roughly with all of his toys. We took him for a shots only visit with Dr. B and he is weighing in at 23.6 lbs.

Maddox

Photobucket

Maddox is our busy bee. She is completely walking on her own now! At around 9.5 months she was taking steps, but now she is full blown walking. She goes EVERYWHERE in a hurry!

Photobucket

Maddox, too, is a sweetheart. She hasn't met a stranger and she is always loving anyone who holds her. She will melt your heart. I'm glad she will have a big brother to watch over her, though I think she will be able to take care of herself. It's nice to know they will always have each other.

Maddox has 6 teeth; four on top and 2 on bottom. She walks everywhere, eats pretty much anything, carries objects around as she is walking, waves, says "Mama" & "Dada" and is still very interested in jewelry/bling. When we took her to Dr. B, she weighed 19.6. She is our petite little girl.

When you pick Maddox up, she feels lighter than she looks as opposed to Lukas who feels heavier than he looks! Both babies are sleeping through the night and both are Pacifier free! Woo Hoo!

Triatholon Daddy...

Cody has always wanted to run a Triatholon. It is one of the things on his "bucket list". This year he decided to sign up and train for a Sprint Triatholon. Basically, you have to swim 300 meters, bike 12 miles, and finish with a 5k run.

This last weekend Cody completed his first triatholon. We couldn't be prouder of him. He did an amazing job and had his family there cheering him on the entire way. It is so refreshing when you see the one you love complete a life goal. I have to admit I got pretty emotional walking up to watch him compete. I cheered so loudly that I can foresee me being "that mom" in the stands for our children. Nevertheless, we were glad that we could share in this day with Cody.

Bye Bye Pacies!

Cody and I were never huge Pacifier fans. In fact, it took us a while to come around to giving our babies a pacifier at all. We knew of several of our friend's babies that wouldn't take a pacifier, so we weren't going to give it to them unless they seemed to want it.

At 2 weeks, we gave them a pacifier and had accumulated about 20 total over the last several months. Anytime one touched the ground we sterilized them and we were always loaded pocket to purse with a paci.

At about 7 months we started debating when to take away their beloved paci. We didn't want it to become a crutch for us or them, and I guess it's also a major peeve of mine when I see a grown child sucking on a pacifier.

We started giving the babies their pacies only at nap and nightime. During the day we would put the pacies away unless there was some sort of complete melt down that required extra calming assistance.

We decided at 10 months the pacifiers would go "Bye Bye". We decided this time because we thought it would be better to get rid of them before they had given it a name (and could ask for it) and before they would actually hunt for it if it wasn't around.

Saturday, October 16th, two days before they were 10 months old, Cody and I threw away the pacies. (We put two away in a safe place, just in case we needed it)

Our babies did and are doing AMAZING! We had a little fussing at nap time, but after about 10 minutes they were both sound asleep. At the second nap of the day, they fussed for about 5 minutes. Then at bedtime, there was no fussing just sleep and they slept ALL night without their pacies. The next day was even better!

We are soo happy that they are gone and that it went so well. I think we would have ditched them sooner had we known it would go so smoothly. We dreaded it more than the babies did. I think that also told us that it was a good time to "lose" them.

I'm soo excited because no more pictures will have a pacifier in them! YAY!

Here is Lukas showing off his crazy hair and two front teeth!

------Hi-------

Lukas and Maddox wave these days and it is sooo precious. Of course, they wouldn't both wave at the same time BUT I caught them both!

Teething & Talking

Lukas and Maddox are both in the middle of getting new teeth. Currently, Maddox has two bottom teeth and is working on getting all four of her front top teeth. If you notice in recent pictures, Maddox does this really odd looking thing with her mouth that looks like she is pouting!  She is really grinding her teeth together! AHHHH the sound drives me crazy!

Photobucket

Lukas has his two bottom teeth and is working on getting his two front teeth.  They look HUGE compared to the two bottom teeth!

They have both been a bit more irritable than usual and are experiencing some of the other wonderful symptoms of teething, but for the most part, they are handling it like champions!!! They have been a bit restless at night and it breaks our hearts when they wake up in pain, but we do enjoy snuggling and rocking them back to sleep.

Up to this point, Lukas has been our talker.  He is constantly jibbering sounds.  However, last week he started saying "Mama" and not just as a noise....if he see's me...he says "Mama"!  Let me tell you, it is MUSIC to my ears!  When his Nana visited after a lot of coaxing, she got him to say "Nana" too!  She best be glad he had said "Mama" first, or she would have been in BIG trouble!

Maddox is was our quieter child.  However, she has recently begun to scream and jabber very loudly.  IT almost sounds like she is singing at times.  It is precious.  Cody got up with her the other morning and spent some Daddy/daughter time in the floor playing, while I got to sleep in.  From the bedroom, I hear Maddox talking and then all of a sudden she starts saying "Dada"!  I'm gone for 30 minutes and look what happens!  Ugh!

I guess it is best that Lukas said "Mama" first and Maddox said "Dada" first, BUT  I wouldn't have cared one bit if they both had said "Mama" first! :-)

Here are some recent pics of the babies...

Nana Visits!!!

My mom, aka Nana, came down to visit her grandbabies. She got to stay with us for a whole week! I don't know about you, but things are just better when my momma is around!!  Our babies were super excited to see her and she even had Lukas saying "Nana" by the end of her visit.

My mom always brings Lukas and Maddox a "Sussy". What is a Sussy you might ask? Well I had the same question when everytime she visited, she would mention that she was bringing a sussy. After some research, I found out that a sussy is a gift given for no reason. How cute is that?

When I think back to my childhood days with my Papaw & Mamaw (though I didn't know what it was called) they always had a sussy for me as well. It was usually something simple like a Werther's Original in his front pocket, but my Papaw was always prepared for my visits to his house or lap :)

I'm glad to know that the tradition will pass on to my children!

Here are some pictures from her visit...
